Temperament Test?

Free, free, free! As of now, we don't charge anything for the 1st temperament test. Please keep in mind that we do charge either a half day (less than 5 hours) or full day (over 5 hours) daycare charge for dogs who must pass an updated temperament test.

As of now, we schedule evaluations between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM Monday through Thursday. We promise we're not looking to inconvenience people with mid-day timeframes! Our goal is to conduct the most efficient temperament test we can and that happens to be mid-day as that's when the bulk of dogs are on site, more employees are on hand, etc. Every once in a great while we can accommodate a special day and time request so feel free to give us a ring at 734-221-5526 if you'd like to check on our availability outside the above timeframes!

As of now, we do not offer temperament testing on the weekends. Saturdays are calmer and more low-key days solely for boarded dogs (as of now). We want to make sure that all dogs familiarize themselves with the typical activity and noise levels of weekly daycare!

Of course they do! Just as with daycare, safety is of the utmost importance. In order to maintain a safe facility, all dogs must pass a dog-friendly temperament test before coming to daycare and/or being boarded. The temperament test is not optional.

A good amount of dogs pass with flying colors. However, still quite often we get pups who can't pass our temperament test due to young age, being easily frightened, lack of social experience, too aggressive, etc. We'll contact you immediately if your dog does not meet our temperament test requirements. Due to the safety of your dog and other dogs on site, you will be required to pick up your pup ASAP. You can schedule a second temperament test after a 30-day waiting period.

Yup, you're absolutely right. During the testing period, we'll observe your dog's energy and dominance levels, along with a variety of other things, in order to place your dog in the appropriate yard. Please note that once your dog is placed in a yard . . . there is still a chance that they can be placed in another yard after they are well acclimated to the facility. Some dogs can get a lot more hyper and confident after a few days of daycare!

Absolutely! Your dog can take another temperament test after a 30-day waiting period. Fees vary for secondary temperament tests. Feel free to give us a ring if you have any further questions regarding our waiting period.

The test is broken down into an initial 15 to 30-minute session (after a 10 to 15-minute conversation) and then a 2 to 4-hour session. During the first 15 to 30 minutes, we will be introducing your dog to a variety of situations (visual, auditory, and tactile stimuli) in a controlled environment to make sure they are comfortable at Pup City. The following 2 to 4-hour session is for additional staff observation and comfort development for your pup!

You are required to stay on site for the first 30 to 45 minutes while we discuss your dog's behavior in detail. Afterwards, you are more than welcome to stay on site during the entire testing period. However, we highly recommend not doing so as there's only so much fun you can have in our lobby! There are loads of stores, restaurants, and entertainment options within walking distance of the building. You'll have way more fun spending time at some of the neighboring businesses!

If your dog isn't fond of other dogs, then Pup City may not be the best place for them! We won't say no if you'd like to schedule a temperament test. However, please don't schedule a temperament test if you're not 100% confident that your dog won't put himself/herself and/or other dogs at risk. Dogs who heavily lack in socialization experience (walks, dog parks, dog-to-dog contact, etc.) with other dogs tend to not do so well during the temperament test.
